Plan your ads around the buying season, not the calendar month

Onam, gold schemes, phone launches and mall events: how to time ads to when buyers decide, with four cases including ₹10 crore of Onam vehicle sales.

Buyers do not spread their spending evenly across the year. They buy vehicles and gold around Onam and weddings, new phones in the weeks after a launch, and outings when there is something on. Many advertising budgets ignore this. They are set as a flat monthly figure and spent at the same pace whether buyers are ready or not.

Our view: plan your ads around the buying season, not the calendar month. Work out when your customers decide, be in front of them before and during that window, and ask them to do something specific while their interest is high. Four of our cases show how this works for very different businesses.

Why a flat budget wastes the season

A season is short. Onam lasts about a month. Interest in a new phone peaks around its launch and fades within weeks. If your ads run at the same level all year, most of your money is spent when few people are buying, and too little is left for the weeks that matter.

A season is also crowded. When demand rises, so does the number of businesses advertising to the same people. That means a seasonal plan cannot just be "spend more in the busy month". It has to make your ad more relevant than the next one: closer to the buyer, clearer about the offer, and quicker to answer.

Four seasons, four ways to meet them

Onam, showroom by showroom

A vehicle dealership chain in Kerala with 20 showrooms ran its campaign through Onam, from 1 to 31 August 2026. Onam is Kerala's peak festive buying window, and a vehicle is often one of the large purchases families make then.

Rather than advertise the chain as one brand across the state, we ran the work showroom by showroom on Meta. Each location had its own creatives, its own offer and its own budget, so people near each branch saw the showroom they could actually drive to. In the Onam month, the chain sold ₹10 crore worth of vehicles, with about ₹5 lakh spent on ads. Festive sales come from many things together, including the brand, the stock and the teams on each floor. The ads' part was to bring local buyers to the nearest branch while they were ready to buy.

Gold schemes: be known first, then ask people to commit

A jewellery retailer in Kerala needed two things from the festive season: a familiar name before the rush, and people committing early, before a rival's offer caught their eye. Brand ads alone build familiarity without bookings. Booking ads alone reach only people who are already shopping.

So we ran both. A budget of ₹1.31 lakh was spread across 16 campaign sets on Meta. Festive brand pushes delivered over 11.4 million impressions and reached 4.36 million prospective jewellery buyers. Alongside them, WhatsApp and website funnels gave that interest a route to an advance festive booking. The retailer's two gold purchase schemes were tracked separately: one brought 414 enquiries at ₹38.14 per lead, and the wedding scheme brought 321 at ₹79.49. That is 735 gold scheme enquiries in total.

Phone launches: be there on the day

A phone retailer in the UAE and Qatar lives by a launch calendar. In the UAE in July 2026, we ran 12 Meta messaging campaigns, each tied to a moment: a youth festival, a summer deal rush, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Flip launches, back to school and Onam festive promotions. They brought 860 messaging conversations from AED 824.71 of spend, at an average of AED 0.96 each. The flagship campaigns cost AED 0.48 to AED 0.68 per conversation, well below that average.

In Qatar, across August and September 2026, 15 ad sets pushed flagship phones and summer bundles, and asked for pre-bookings as well as enquiries. Pre-booking posts drew 2,028+ engagements, the campaigns brought 700+ messaging sales enquiries, and the best bundle sets cost QAR 0.47 to QAR 0.84 per result. Across both countries that came to 1,560+ buyer chats. A launch brings buyers into the market by itself. Advertising at that moment reaches people who have already decided to buy and are choosing where.

A mall's month: give people a date

A shopping mall in Abu Dhabi used July to stay in front of local shoppers and turn some of that attention into plans to visit. Geo-fenced awareness ads kept reach inside the catchment, while seasonal event promotions, student event activations and registrations gave people a reason and a date to come.

Over 1 to 31 July, $1,372.63 across 34 ad sets reached 440,360 local shoppers, at $1.62 to $1.69 per 1,000 people reached. The month brought 2,066+ event engagements, 722 visits to the mall's profile page and 154 event registrations. A registration is a plan to be somewhere on a certain day, which is far more useful to a mall than a like.

How to build your own season plan

Every business has a season, even if it is not a festival. It might be a product launch, the start of a school year or the run-up to weddings. If you run admissions, the intake window works the same way: see catching search intent in a short intake window. Use this list to plan yours.

  • Mark your buying windows on a calendar. List the festivals, launches and dates when your customers actually decide, and plan the year around them.
  • Start the brand work before the rush. People tend to buy from the name they already know, so be familiar before the season opens.
  • Give every window a specific ask. A booking, a pre-booking, a scheme sign-up or an event registration. A clear next step turns seasonal interest into something you can count.
  • Keep it local. Show each branch to the people who can reach it, with its own offer and budget, so one cheap area does not swallow the money.
  • Track each offer on its own. Separate numbers for each scheme or promotion tell you what each enquiry is worth paying for.
  • Have someone ready to reply. In a busy season, the business that answers first often wins the sale.

Be there when buyers decide, not a week after.

Questions business owners ask

When should a Kerala business start its Onam advertising?

Early enough that your name is familiar before the rush, and with your strongest push inside the season itself. The dealership's campaign ran across the whole Onam month, 1 to 31 August 2026. As a general rule, brand ads need a head start, while offers and bookings work best once buyers are actively shopping.

Should I spend festive budget on brand ads or on offers?

Both, side by side. The jeweller's festive brand pushes reached 4.36 million prospective buyers, and the booking funnels gave that attention somewhere to go. Either one alone does half the job.

Can seasonal ads work on a small budget?

Yes, if the timing is right. The phone retailer's 12 UAE campaigns spent AED 824.71 in July 2026, and the mall's month cost $1,372.63. A small budget spent in the right weeks usually does more than a larger one spread evenly across the year.
