A phone retailer in the UAE and Qatar won 1,560+ buyer chats by timing Meta ads to launches, pre-bookings and bundles, from AED 0.48 per flagship chat.

Phones sell in bursts. A new flagship arrives, a season turns or a bundle goes on offer, and for a short while buyers are ready to upgrade. A mobile and telecom retailer in the UAE and Qatar asked us to put it in front of those buyers at exactly those moments.

Across the two countries, 27 campaigns and ad sets produced more than 1,560 buyer chats. In the UAE, the flagship launch campaigns brought conversations in at AED 0.48 to AED 0.68 each, well under the AED 0.96 average. In Qatar, pre-booking posts drew more than 2,028 engagements before the phones were even on sale.

The client

The client is a mobile and telecom retailer trading in the UAE and Qatar. It sells smartphones, from the newest flagship models to summer bundle offers.

Phone retail follows a calendar of its own. Manufacturers launch new models, the seasons change, and buyers decide to upgrade at moments that are easy to predict and quickly over. Many people who buy a flagship have chosen the phone before they choose the shop. What they are still deciding is where to buy it, and that often comes down to price, availability, what comes with the handset and who replies first.

This retailer's campaigns in both countries were planned around that calendar.

The challenge

Each country had its own brief. In the UAE, the brief for July 2026 was a high volume of sales enquiries and smartphone purchase leads, built around summer promotions and flagship launches. In Qatar, it was a 60-day scaling phase across August and September 2026, aimed at sales, pre-bookings and enquiries for flagship phones: new iPhone releases, Galaxy devices and summer bundles.

Phone demand is short and sharp. Interest in a new model peaks around its launch and fades within weeks. Buyers also compare the same handset across many sellers, often on price alone, so a retailer that is missing at the moment of decision loses the sale to one that is there.

That is why a steady, always-on campaign struggles in this category. It spends the same in a quiet week as in a launch week, and for most buyers it is either too early or too late. In phone retail, when an ad runs matters as much as what it says.

What we did

Twelve UAE campaigns, each with a sales angle

In the UAE we ran 12 Meta messaging campaigns, each mapped to a sales angle: a youth festival, a summer deal rush, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Flip launches, back to school and Onam festive promotions. Every one was built to open a messaging conversation with the retailer.

Giving each campaign a single angle keeps the message tight. A buyer waiting for the new Fold sees an ad about the Fold, and a family getting ready for the school year sees an ad about the school year. Each angle also shows its own cost per conversation, so it is clear which moments buyers answer.

A two-layer funnel in Qatar

In Qatar we ran full-funnel Meta campaigns across 15 ad sets. High-reach engagement pushes built attention across a wide audience. Direct-to-WhatsApp messaging funnels then turned that attention into sales conversations.

The two layers do different jobs. The engagement layer makes sure plenty of people know a launch or a bundle is coming. The messaging layer gives the people who care a one-tap way to ask about it. Over a 60-day scaling phase, that pairing kept attention and conversation moving together.

Pre-bookings for flagship releases

For the flagship phones, the Qatar campaigns asked for pre-bookings as well as enquiries. A pre-booking turns early excitement into a commitment before the phone reaches the shelf. It also gives the store a list of interested buyers ahead of launch day, so the first days of sales are not left to chance.

The idea of asking people to commit early is not unique to phones. We used a similar approach for a jewellery retailer in Kerala, whose campaigns turned festive interest into advance bookings through gold purchase schemes.

The spends stay in dirhams and riyals, so there is no single total. The most telling figures are the cheapest ones. In the UAE, the flagship campaigns ran at AED 0.48 to AED 0.68 per conversation, well below the AED 0.96 average across the 12 campaigns. In Qatar, the best bundle sets cost less than one riyal per result, at QAR 0.47 to QAR 0.84. Together, 860 UAE conversations and 700+ Qatar enquiries made up the 1,560+ buyer chats.

Why it worked

The launch campaigns met demand rather than trying to create it. A Galaxy Z Fold launch or a new iPhone release brings buyers into the market by itself. Advertising at that moment reaches people who have already decided to buy and are choosing where. That is the likely reason the UAE flagship campaigns cost less per chat than the average.

Pre-booking posts caught interest early. More than 2,028 engagements on those posts in Qatar show how much attention a flagship release draws before the phones are on sale. Asking for a pre-booking gives that attention somewhere to go.

Bundles gave buyers something to ask about. A bundle changes the comparison. The buyer is no longer matching one handset's price across shops, but weighing what comes with it. That is a question worth a WhatsApp message, and a conversation the retailer can win on more than price.

Be there when the phone launches, not a week after.

How to apply this to your business

  • Plan your advertising around the launch calendar and the seasons, not a flat monthly budget.
  • Give each campaign one angle, such as a single launch, festival or deal, so you can see which ones buyers answer.
  • Open pre-bookings before a flagship arrives, so early interest becomes a commitment.
  • Put together bundles that give buyers something to ask about beyond the handset's price.
  • Send your ads to WhatsApp, and have someone ready to reply quickly in launch weeks.
  • Report each country in its own currency.

Questions business owners ask

When should a phone shop advertise a new iPhone or Galaxy launch?

Around the launch itself, and before it with pre-bookings. Interest in a new model peaks at launch and fades within weeks. In this case the UAE flagship campaigns ran at AED 0.48 to AED 0.68 per conversation, below the AED 0.96 average, most likely because they reached people who had already decided to buy.

Are WhatsApp ads worth it for mobile phone retailers?

For a product people compare shop by shop, a chat is often where the sale is decided. Across the UAE and Qatar, this retailer's Meta campaigns started more than 1,560 buyer chats. The value depends on what happens next, so a quick, well-informed reply matters as much as the ad. For a retailer selling laptops and desktops in the same two markets, see our work with an electronics retailer in Qatar and the UAE.

Do pre-booking campaigns work for phone launches?

They catch interest while it is at its peak. In Qatar, pre-booking posts drew more than 2,028 engagements before the phones were on sale. A pre-booking also hands the store a list of interested buyers to contact on launch day.

Why do bundle offers work for phone retailers?

A bundle moves the comparison away from price alone and towards what comes with the phone, which gives the buyer a reason to ask questions. In Qatar, the best bundle sets cost QAR 0.47 to QAR 0.84 per result.
